Schweickershausen Castle

The first documented mention of the locality Schweickershausen dates back to 1317, with the current name becoming common from 1340 onwards. It is presumed that a fortification or castle already existed at this early time. The property initially belonged to the von Schaumberg family before being sold in 1469 to Hartung Truchseß von Wetzhausen zu Sternberg. His descendants subsequently adopted the name Truchsess von Schweickershausen. The castle building visible today was constructed in 1703.
