Schwepnitz Castle

Fire is the fate of Schwepnitz Castle near Königsbrück. Already in the 15th century, there was a knight's estate in Schwepnitz. It belonged to a family von Knobloch, but had nothing in common with the current location. In 1541, the castle lords von Dohna bought Schwepnitz and established a so-called vassal knight's estate here, which was subordinate to the Königsbrück lordship. Later owners were Johann Sigismund Ehenreich Graf von Redern, Gottlob von Heinze, and Ernst Heinrich Feurich. In 1848, fate struck for the first time. Lightning destroyed the estate buildings. Feurich then had the manor house built in the English Tudor style. Later owners were Freiherr von Rochow or the von Wolffersdorf family. In 1945, Schwepnitz was expropriated and the castle served as a school. Only a few years ago, a roof fire significantly damaged the castle. Since then, the roof and parts of the upper floor have been missing. Nature is slowly reclaiming its possession. A rescue seems hopeless.
