Schwertberg Castle

Schloss Schwertberg was first mentioned in 1327, recorded as property of the Bishopric of Regensburg. In 1355, Leutold II von Kuenring, the first known owner by name, passed away. Andre von Lichtenstein and Friedrich von Wallsee relinquished their rights for a payment, allowing Eberhard von Kapellen to acquire the castle in 1359. Further changes in ownership followed, including Ernst Preuhofer (1402) and the Liechtensteiner family (1406). In 1462, ownership passed to Reinprecht IV von Wallsee, before it came into the possession of the Öder family in 1470 through inheritance, and later the Hauser family. In 1506, Christof Zeller zu Riedau purchased the castle. After the beheading of his cousin Bernhard Zeller in 1521, Georg von Wolframsdorf inherited the estate. Around 1530, the castle came into the possession of the Tannberg family through marriage, who sold it to Hans von Tschernembl in 1575.
