Schwetzingen Palace, a former summer residence of the Palatine Electors, is a historical building in Baden-Württemberg. It is known for its palace garden, which was laid out in the 18th century.

History+

The first documented mention of the palace as a medieval moated castle dates back to 1350. In 1427, it came into the possession of Elector Ludwig III. After several renovations and its use as a hunting lodge, it was destroyed towards the end of the Thirty Years' War. Elector Karl Ludwig subsequently had it rebuilt for his beloved Luise von Degenfeld. Another destruction occurred during the War of the Palatine Succession, but the foundations remained.
