Schwindegg Castle

Schwindegg Castle is a Renaissance moated castle in the center of Schwindegg, a rural municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Mühldorf am Inn.
As early as the 14th century, there was a manorial seat in Schwindegg. Worth seeing are the mighty moated castle and the castle ensemble. The enclosed four-wing building with corner towers and gate tower was built between 1594 and 1620 by Sebastian von Haunsperg on medieval foundations. The castle includes the so-called outer castle (former farmyard) with two stable wings from around 1750 and the 19th-century castle park.
Since 1816, the castle was owned by the von Moreau family. In 1851, the former administrator Josef Fischer bought the castle. In 1912, the Kyffhäuserbund and the Bavarian Veterans and Soldiers Association took it over and used it as a recreation home; later it served as an SA leader school. In 1945, it became the seat of the district hospital of the Mühldorf district. The castle has been in private ownership since 1956 and is not publicly accessible; the entire complex was converted into a condominium complex in 1980 by Professor Franz Schilke as part of a developer company.
However, the character of the complex is best revealed during a short walk starting at the former castle restaurant, south along the Goldach and back around the nursing home of the Collegium Augustinum, on the sidewalk along Rimbachstrasse. Also worth seeing are the buildings directly around the castle, all stately, former residential or commercial buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, which belong to the protected castle ensemble.
