Schwöbber Castle

The history of Schwöbber Castle is closely linked to the noble family von Münchhausen, who owned the estate from approximately 1510 to 1919. Hilmar von Münchhausen, a wealthy mercenary leader in the service of Philip II, acquired the Schwöbber fief in 1564 and received permission to build a noble residence. Planning for the castle began around 1566 by the Hameln master builder Cord Tönnies.
