Seeburg Castle (Kreuzlingen)

The castle's origins date back to 1598, when Jakob Atzenholz-Zollikofer von Tattenwiler from Constance had a small castle named Neuhorn built. This later served as a summer residence for the abbots of the Augustinian monastery in Kreuzlingen. After a fire in 1633, it was rebuilt in 1664 by Abbot Augustin I. Gimmi, then still a simple structure with a gabled roof and a square enclosing wall. From 1833, the building housed the Thurgau Teachers' Seminary under the direction of the educator Johann Jacob Wehrli. Following the secularization of the monasteries, Seeburg passed to the Canton of Thurgau in 1848, which relocated the seminary in 1850 and sold the castle in 1852.
