Seefeld Castle

The origins of Seefeld date back to 1150, when a document mentioned the donation of a forest plot by Count Berchthold von Andechs to Benediktbeuern Monastery, which had been handed over to Degenhard von Seefeld. In the 12th and 13th centuries, Seefeld established itself as the seat of noble lords with extensive landholdings. The oldest part of the castle, the keep, dates from the 13th century. The first documented mention of the castle as "Feste Schloßberg" occurred in 1302. In the mid-15th century, it came into the possession of the Counts of Toerring-Jettenbach. In 1601, a brewery was built in Seefeld. The castle received its current Baroque form in the 18th century. Around 1739, the castle chapel was furnished, and after 1766, an extension was added to the east side.
