Seelingstädt Castle

A knight's seat was first mentioned in 1445/47, which was elevated to a knight's estate in 1551. At this time, the place belonged to the von Döhring family. The castle was built in 1630 on the site of an early wooden castle. In the mid-19th century, ownership passed to the Zschucke family, who rebuilt the castle to its current appearance in 1870. Around 1900, ownership passed to Woldemor Bretschneider-Bodemer, who rebuilt the castle again. In 1945, Bretschneider-Bodemer was dispossessed and expelled by the communists. The property came four years later to the Episcopal See of the Diocese of Meissen. It was used as a nursing home and provided with an extension. In 2004, renovation work took place. The buildings are still used by Caritas as a nursing home on the one hand, and as an educational center on the other.
