Seggau Castle

In Seggauberg, Austria, Seggau Castle stands on a wooded hill. Originally built as a missionary and administrative center, it now combines the functions of a modern hotel and conference center with a long history.
History+
The origins of Seggau Castle date back to the 12th century when the Archbishops of Salzburg built the upper castle. From 1218, the Bishops of Seckau expanded the complex. Three independent castles developed here: Leibnitz Castle of the Archbishops of Salzburg, the castle of the Bishops of Seckau, and the lower-lying Polheim Castle, seat of Salzburg ministerials. After devastations in the Hungarian War of 1479, the castles remained untouched by the Ottomans during the Turkish Wars.
