Seibersdorf Castle

Seibersdorf Castle is a Renaissance castle in the Lower Austrian municipality of Seibersdorf.

The three-story building is located in the center of the village and is surrounded by a former moat. The castle-like building is accessible via a stone bridge. The entrance to the castle courtyard is formed by two obelisks with a wrought-iron gate. The privately owned castle can only be viewed from the outside. The castle complex is a protected monument and is under the protection of the Hague Convention.

The castle was probably built in the 16th century. Predecessor buildings are not known. In 1594, Georg Leonhard and Rudolf von Stoitzing were the owners, and in the 17th century, Franz Graf Nadasdy von Pottendorf. After the execution of Count Nadasdy, the castle passed into the possession of Niklas Palffy, Count von Erdőd, and a few years later to Julius Friedrich Graf Busselini. The castle was not captured during the Turkish Wars around 1683. In 1709, the estate came into the possession of Christoph Ernst Graf Fuchs von Bimbach. However, his widow sold it as early as 1715 to Leopold Carl Graf Cavriani. He had the building converted in Baroque style and provided with a new facade. The property remained in his family until 1932, when the castle was sold to the married couple Riedemann-Ledebur.

After the Second World War, the building was severely devastated and the inventory was lost. The building itself was sold to a hotel AG and the estate business was sold elsewhere.

Since 1971, the castle has been owned by a trading company. However, its appearance is almost identical to how it was drawn in 1672 by Georg Matthäus Vischer.

In 2012, the castle served as a film set for the movie "Alles nur Kulisse" (All Just Scenery), a comedy of errors centered around Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss" by Wolfgang Murnberger.
