Senden Castle
A prominent moated castle in Münsterland, Senden Castle, is situated on the Stever River, which feeds its moats. Just a stone's throw away runs the Dortmund-Ems Canal. It is a destination for cyclists and part of the “100 Castles Route”.
History+
The castle served as a noble residence for a long time. Until the late 1990s, it operated as a hotel, but a roof fire ended this era. Today, it hosts the sculpture courses of the Senden Art School. The “Initiative Schloss Senden” is actively committed to preserving the building and is looking for new usage concepts to protect it from further decay. Since 2011, a medieval market with an encampment has annually attracted numerous visitors to the outer moats.
