In the Aeschach district of Lindau is Senftenau Castle, a manor with a park. Originally a moated castle from the 12th or 13th century, the building still borders a small pond today.

History+

The first documented mention of Senftenau Castle dates back to 1344, when Count Ulrich II of Montfort handed over the estate to the Emperor as a fief. After 1356, ownership changed to various patrician families who used it as a summer residence. In 1525, the castle passed to the Humpis family during the Peasants' War. Sebastian Kurz acquired the castle in 1551 from Friedrich Hundtpiss and subsequently called himself “Kurtz von Senftenau.” He had a castle chapel built in 1533.
