Senftenegg Castle

The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1367. Hans Häusler is named as the owner. The Häusler family is traceable here until 1421. They held the seat as a fief of the Regensburg bishops, but at times also only as a sub-fief, as in 1391 the Duke of Bavaria was enfeoffed with Purgstall and Senftenegg by the bishopric.

After the Häusler family died out, the Zelkingers resided in the castle. They were followed in 1459 by the Lords Fürst von Senftenegg. Now the owners changed quite rapidly. Initially, they mostly included minor nobility and commoners, but also the Lassberg and Hohenegg families. In the 16th century, the castle largely acquired its present appearance.

In 1738, Wolf Maximilian Graf Auersperg was the lord of Senftenegg Castle. In 1792, the estate was sold to Paul von Strohmayer. In 1797, Georg Adam Fürst Starhemberg acquired the estate, which remained in family ownership until 1934. Today, the castle is owned by Karl Friedrich von Frank. It is inhabited by its owner.
