Seußlitz Castle, a Baroque palace, is located in Diesbar-Seußlitz, a district of the municipality of Nünchritz in Saxony.

History+

The first documented mention of Seußlitz dates back to 1205, when a moated castle existed there. Between 1250 and 1265, Margrave Heinrich the Illustrious of Meissen had a country castle built, with the presumed intention of moving his residence there, which, however, was not realized. In 1268, he donated the castle to the Order of St. Clare, which converted it into a nunnery of St. Afra by 1272. After the Reformation and sequestration in 1541, the monastery was acquired as an outwork by Simon Pistoris in 1545 and first documented as a manor in 1552.
