Seyfriedsberg Castle is a historic building in the Swabian district of Günzburg, near Ziemetshausen in Bavaria. The complex, consisting of a three-story main building and a right-angled side wing, forms an enclosed courtyard with a connecting wall and dates to the 13th century.

History+

The Veste Seyfriedsberg was first mentioned in 1227 when it was built by Siegfried III, Count of Rechberg, then Bishop of Augsburg. Originally, the complex bore the name Sifritspurc or Sifritsperc, from which its current name derived. Ownership changed frequently, with the Bishops of Augsburg, the Staufer, the Margraves of Burgau, and the Habsburgs among the proprietors. Between 1529 and 1568, the castle was constructed by Carl Villinger von Schöneberg the Elder. In the early 17th century, Carl Villinger von Schöneberg had the outer bailey built and the castle garden designed. In 1667, Ernst Count zu Oettingen-Wallerstein acquired the property.
