Sierning Castle

The origins of Sierning Castle lie in a Passau rectory. In 1588, renovations were completed under the direction of canons Georg Gotthardt and Johann von Tattenböck. In 1611, the castle was captured by Passau troops under Commander Ramee. During the Peasants' Wars, it served as a base for Stefan Fadinger, from where he arranged the surrender of the city of Steyr with city judge Madlseder without a fight. From 1754 until the secularization in 1803, Sierning was owned by the Passau Cathedral Chapter. Subsequently, in 1803, it passed to the Austrian state, became an imperial-royal cameral dominion in 1805, and was later declared property of the imperial court. In 1827, legation secretary Theodor Ritter von Kast acquired the dominion of Sierning, which then passed to Llewellyn Freiherr von Kast in 1850.
