Sigharting Castle

The origins of Sigharting Castle date back to 1570, when Hector von Pürching had a new manorial castle built on the site of an older structure. It initially served as the residence for the lords of the Sigharting manor. The moat was filled in during the 18th century. After the Pürching family died out, the castle passed to Count Hans Adolph von Tattenbach in 1639, who sold off most of its furnishings. Subsequently, it was primarily inhabited by administrators and hunters. In 1870, the municipality of Sigharting acquired the castle to house various public functions. It accommodated, among others, the municipal office (1850-1950), the elementary school (1837-1970), and the gendarmerie (1936-1950).
