Sinning Castle

Around 1660, Franz Freiherr von Giese had the three-story castle built in the Renaissance style, presumably on the site of a former moated castle. After the male line of the von Giese family died out, Freiherr Wilhelm Adam von Weveld acquired the property in 1721 for 9,750 guilders. In 1727, he extended the castle with a two-story Baroque wing in the French style, which adjoined the north and east. In 1830, Johann Baptist Freiherr von Weveld established a brickworks, a nursery, and a brewery on the surrounding estates, transforming the operation into an industrial agricultural enterprise and becoming the largest employer in the region. Financial difficulties after Black Friday in 1929 led to Heribert Freiherr von Weveld being forced by the Nazi regime to sell the so-called Weveldhaus in Neuburg an der Donau to settle debts.
