Sitzenthal Castle

The first documented mention of the locality and Sitzenthal Castle dates back to 1287, when Otto von Scheuernberg sold his estate in Sitzenthal to Hartwig von Wasen. The castle's name likely originates from Count Sighard von Schalla, a feudal lord from the 12th century. The property frequently changed hands. Renovations occurred in the 16th century and again in 1835. In 1843, Anton Graf Ledóchowski acquired the castle. His daughters, Theresia and Julia Ursula, later achieved beatification and canonization, respectively. The once large farmstead from the early 17th century is only partially preserved today. In 1897, the castle came into the possession of the Counts Braida, who still own it today.
