Skokloster Castle

The construction of Skokloster Castle began shortly after the Thirty Years' War under the direction of Field Marshal Carl Gustav Wrangel. Casper Vogell and Nicodemus Tessin d. Ä. were significantly involved in its design as architects. The castle, whose shell was completed around 1670, is characterized by a square floor plan with four octagonal corner towers and an inner courtyard. The interior decoration, which continued until about 1700, was never fully completed, which is still evident today in the great banqueting hall, which retains the state of a 17th-century construction site. After several changes of ownership, the castle was sold to the Swedish state in 1967, subsequently renovated, and declared a cultural monument in 1971, making it accessible to the public.

Skokloster Castle is located in Slottsskogen, in the municipality of Håbo, in the Uppsala district of Sweden. It stands at an elevation of approximately 16 meters above sea level.

Today, visitors can tour the castle and admire its largely preserved original furnishings and appearance. Particularly noteworthy are the unique paintings, sculptures, the armory, and the library. Additionally, medieval festivals, the Skoklosterspelen, take place every late summer.
