Södel Castle

Elongated rectangular building located on the northern edge of the village, erected in the second half of the 16th century by the Södel landlords, the Counts of Solms-Lich; the building is three-story, with an uppermost floor entirely built in half-timbering following two predominantly solid lower floors. A round stone stair tower is placed in front of the south side, originally topped by an octagonal half-timbered structure with a hood. Portals are marked with the dates 1579, 1607, and 1611. The Dehio already points out that the portals are offset and can only be considered as an indication of construction phases to a limited extent. It is unmistakable that a section of the building was added later (early 17th century) in the north. At this time, perhaps the half-timbered walls were also renewed. The building, significant in terms of building typology and territorial history, was already converted into family apartments in the 19th century, currently unused and without structural maintenance.
