History+
The construction of Solliden Palace took place between 1903 and 1906 at the behest of Queen Victoria. The Villa San Michele on Capri, the estate of her friend Axel Munthe, served as inspiration for the design. The palace was not built for representative purposes but as a private summer residence. After the death of his great-grandfather Gustav V. in 1950, Solliden passed to the current King Carl XVI. Gustaf at the age of four. To this day, it serves as the royal family's summer home, where Crown Princess Victoria traditionally celebrates her birthdays.
