Sonneck Castle

The origins of the estate trace back to the 14th century, when a fortified noble seat of the Ligister family stood on this site. In 1404, the first documented mention of a “Ligaster Hoff” under the name “Sunnekh” appeared. Friedrich Lugaster was the resident of the court in 1445. Later, the property passed to the Counts of Saurau, who held it until 1592. Due to testamentary disposition and high debts, the estate was sold in 1592. Towards the end of the 16th century, Lorenz Weser was the owner, whose son sold it to Anna Maria von Pranckh. Subsequently, it passed into the possession of the Wottgo family. Maria Beigna von Wottgo sold the estate in 1694 to Christian Völkher.
