Sorg Castle

In the 16th century, a small summer house stood on the site of the present Sorg Castle, surrounded by an orchard. In 1647, the patrician Rieter family sold this property to Baron von Lichtenberg, who built his manor house on it. It stands on the Schwarzach slope above the village. After the death of the builder, the castle came into the possession of various noble families. Between 1750 and 1853, several merchant families from Nuremberg owned the property and used it as a summer residence. In 1820, the remains of a Baroque garden with avenues and hedges still existed in front of the castle. In 1853, Johann Michael Scheuerlein, a farmer and timber merchant, bought the property and used it as a farm. It is still owned by this family today. As part of the now completed renovation, a valuable stucco ceiling could also be restored.
