In the Upper Bavarian municipality of Oberschweinbach stands Spielberg Castle, a structure that has gone from a medieval castle to its current role as a community center. Originally conceived as a Hofmark seat, it now combines the functions of a town hall with the historical legacy of its walls.

History+

The origins of Spielberg Castle date back to 1150, when a castle stood on this site. The current castle complex, which once housed a Hofmark, was built in 1624. Around 1750, the castle underwent an extensive renovation in the Rococo style. In 1899, Franciscan nuns from Reutberg Monastery acquired the property and established a chapel and a retirement home there.
