Spiez Castle

The earliest parts of the castle, particularly the lower section of the keep, date from the 10th century. The castle was originally owned by the Barons of Strättligen before passing to the Bubenberg family in 1338. An era began in 1516 with its acquisition by the von Erlach family, who resided there until 1875. From this period also originate the early Baroque stucco decorations in the banqueting hall, created by Ticinese artists in 1614. After the Erlachs, the castle belonged to Hermann Karl von Wilke from 1875 to 1900.
