Spremberg Castle is located in the town of Spremberg in Brandenburg. Originally a Romanesque moated castle, it evolved into an early Baroque palace complex and now serves as a cultural hub for the region.

History+

The origins of Spremberg Castle date back to the 11th century when it was built as a Romanesque moated castle. Under the rule of the Dukes of Saxe-Merseburg, particularly Duke Heinrich, the building underwent extensive transformation and was expanded into an early Baroque complex. After the extinction of the Merseburg secundogeniture, the castle became part of Electoral Saxony's possessions in 1738. From then until 1997, it served administrative purposes.
