In the St. Georgen district of Bayreuth is St. Georgen Castle. Originally conceived as a meeting place for a knightly order, it now serves as part of a correctional facility.

History+

The first St. Georgen Castle was founded by Hereditary Prince Georg Wilhelm, a Franconian Hohenzollern, who established the suburb of St. Georgen am See. This initial structure existed between 1701 and 1724 but became dilapidated due to rapid construction and the use of much wood instead of stone, necessitating its demolition.
