Stammheim Castle

The origins of Stammheim Castle date back to the 15th century, when the complex was first documented and owned by the Lords of Rosenbach. This noble family shaped the early history of the site. In 1587, Dietrich von Rosenbach began constructing a small castle in place of the existing fortress. However, he did not live to see its completion in 1592, as noted on the portal, having died in 1590. Due to property disputes, the Lords of Rosenbach sold their estate in 1699 to the Lords of Schlitz called von Görtz. After several changes of ownership, the municipality acquired the castle in 1850 and used it as a school and council hall. Following a period of decay, during which it was inhabited by refugees, Stammheim Castle was acquired by a private individual a few years ago and renovated.
