Steinach Castle, also known as Ottenhof, is a historic building in Thuringia that once served as a stately residence and now houses a museum.

History+

The origins of Steinach Castle date back to the late 17th century. In 1699, master smelter Johann von Uttenhoven, originally from the Ore Mountains, acquired the hammer mills in Obersteinach. He settled 60 Saxon worker families and had a first stately residential building, the so-called old castle, erected between 1717 and 1718. The construction of the current “new” castle, the Ottenhof, began in 1747 under the direction of master smelter Johann Tobias Otto.
