Steinbach Castle

The first documented mention of Steinbach dates back to 1168, already referring to a moated castle and the knight's estate built upon it. The settlement developed along the Jordanbach stream. In 1445, a knight's seat with two outworks existed there. Among the early known owners was Hans von Holleuffer around 1540, followed by the families von Weißbach and aus dem Winckel. In 1608, Hans Georg von Zehmen took over the estate. He had the current castle built around 1715. Under his patronage, a new Baroque church was also constructed in 1717.
