Steinenhausen Castle is a baroque complex near Melkendorf, a district of Kulmbach in Upper Franconia. It is at the confluence of the Red Main and White Main, where the Main River originates.

History+

Steinenhausen dates back to 1439, when Margrave Friedrich of Brandenburg-Kulmbach enfeoffed Rüdiger Henlein and his brothers Ulrich and Jörg with the burgstall Steinenhausen. From 1481, Bernhard von Guttenberg began to expand the complex. An alliance coat of arms from 1512 shows that Moritz von Guttenberg had a new bower built, with his brothers Heinrich IV and Bernhard also involved in the reconstruction.
