Steinfurt Castle, also known as Haus Drensteinfurt, is a moated castle in Drensteinfurt, North Rhine-Westphalia. The estate is characterized by its location amidst moats, which incorporate the Werse river.

History+

The origins of Haus Steinfurt date back to 1177, when Lubbert von Steinfurt was mentioned as the first feudal lord of the main estate. Around 1200, the Lords of Rinkerode took over the fief, before the noble Lords of Volmestein gained possession through marriage in 1324. In 1429, the property passed to the Märkisch noble family von der Recke zu Heeren through the marriage of the heiress Neyse von Volmestein. Johann von der Recke redeemed the knight's estate from Osnabrück suzerainty in 1480 and transferred it as an allodial property.
