Steinhöfel Castle

The origins of the castle date back to a manor house built around 1730 by the von Wulffen family. In 1774, ownership transferred to State Minister Baron Joachim Christian von Blumenthal. A phase began in 1790 when Valentin von Massow, a regimental comrade of Prussian Crown Prince Frederick William, acquired the estate. Under his patronage, the manor house was redesigned and expanded between 1790 and 1795 by David Gilly, assisted by his son Friedrich Gilly, in the early classical style. The estate became a model for rural architecture and garden design. Around 1820 and 1840, further alterations followed, modifying the original appearance.
