Steninge Castle

Steninge Palace, north of Stockholm, stands as a unique example of Italian-influenced Baroque in Sweden. The palace, located near Märsta, is distinguished by its construction and the once harmonious connection with its garden complex.
History+
Steninge Palace was built between 1694 and 1698. The designs for the two-story main building with its four single-story wooden side wings were created by the architect Nicodemus Tessin d. J. Its design shows echoes of Italian Baroque, particularly the villas of Andrea Palladio. Originally, the palace formed a unit with a garden, characterized by terraces, grand staircases, and pavilions; however, only minor traces of this original layout remain today.
