Stern Castle
Schloss Stern in Potsdam is a historic hunting lodge characterized by its simple Dutch bourgeois house architecture. It is nestled in the Parforceheide and is the oldest preserved castle building in Potsdam.
History+
Under the reign of Frederick William I, known as the Soldier King, Schloss Stern was built between 1730 and 1732. It served exclusively as a hunting residence and was the center of an extensive area developed for parforce hunts with a star-shaped system of lanes from 1726 onwards. Construction was likely overseen by Cornelius van den Bosch, a grenadier and master carpenter of Dutch origin, while Pierre de Gayette, captain of the engineering corps and court architect, supervised the work. Following the destruction of the Potsdam City Palace, Schloss Stern is now the oldest preserved palace in the city.

It stands at an elevation of approximately 42 meters above sea level, on the outskirts of Potsdam's Stern district, between the A115 motorway to the east and a newer residential area to the west.
