The history of Schloss Zeil dates back to the Middle Ages. Originally a medieval fortress, it served to protect the surrounding lands and their inhabitants. Over the centuries, the castle underwent numerous transformations, reflecting the changing architectural styles and the needs of its respective owners.

From Fortress to Residence

In the 16th century, the castle was transformed from a purely defensive structure into a magnificent residential palace. This period saw the addition of numerous decorative elements and the expansion of the living quarters, making the castle a comfortable and representative home for the nobility.

Baroque Redesign

A significant redesign took place in the 18th century, when the castle was transformed in the Baroque style. This era brought opulent facades, grand halls, and elaborately designed gardens that still characterize the appearance of Schloss Zeil today. The Baroque elements lend the castle a unique splendor and elegance.

Schloss Zeil is an outstanding example of Baroque architecture in Southern Germany. The castle complex consists of several wings, courtyards, and gardens, all harmoniously integrated into the landscape. The Castle Chapel

Today, Schloss Zeil is still privately owned and regularly hosts cultural events, concerts, and exhibitions. Parts of the castle are also open to the public for guided tours, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating history of this unique building.

The castle was built in 1583 by the von Riedheim family and redesigned in the Baroque style by Valerian Brenner in 1712.
