Stetten Castle

Stetten Castle is a former castle in Stetten and today the seat of Diakonie Stetten.

The L-shaped complex, built by the Truchsesses of Stetten, was first mentioned in 1241. It was expanded between 1384 and 1387, with further expansion in the 16th/17th century.

The complex once belonged to the Thumb von Neuburg family. The core of the castle, the Bonn building, was probably erected at this time, i.e. in the 16th century, as was the Liebenstein building.

In 1666, the castle and the village passed into the hands of the Dukes of Württemberg. In 1722, Duke Eberhard Ludwig had another building added, in which he housed his mistress Wilhelmine von Grävenitz, who had lived in Stetten from 1712 until 1733. This part of the castle was probably built by the court architect Frisoni.

In May 1864, the "Healing and Care Institution for Mentally Handicapped Children", which had previously been located in Winterbach, was moved to the castle; the current institution of Diakonie emerged from it.
