Stockhausen Castle

Schloss Stockhausen, built in 1770 by Georg Koch, the court architect of the Riedesel family, on the remains of the Hermannsburg built in the 16th century, is a three-winged complex in Empire style, completed in 1801 with mansard roofs and an elevated gatehouse in the center. To the east of it is the farmyard with a beautiful gateway flanked by two guard pavilions and a simple baroque manor house. South of the castle is a well-maintained landscape park with a terraced garden, pond, and classical mausoleum. Putti and vases from the 18th century serve as decorations. The castle complex is now used by the anthroposophical community of Altenschlirf.
