Stolpe Castle

The origins of the estate date back to the early 13th century, when it became the seat of a collateral line of the von Schwerin family. At the end of the 16th century, Otto von Schwerin had a rectangular core building erected in the High Renaissance style. Although the building was partially damaged during the Thirty Years' War, the masonry of the two-story Renaissance structure remained largely intact. Between 1690 and 1700, Erdmann von Schwerin oversaw a reconstruction and renovation in the Baroque style, from which the hip roof, still preserved today, originates. After an interruption of about 140 years, the estate returned to the possession of the von Schwerin family in 1895. Friedrich Graf von Schwerin had the manor house extensively rebuilt in the Historicist style by 1905, giving it its castle-like character with extensions, three towers, an arcaded passage, and a new portal. Inside, the entrance hall was redesigned with a gallery and a curved staircase.
