Stopfenheim Castle
Stopfenheim Castle is located in Stopfenheim, a district of Ellingen in the Central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen.
The predecessor building was a moated castle, which was demolished in the early 18th century. In 1716, the current castle was built as a bailiwick of the Teutonic Order by master builder Franz Keller in the Baroque style on the foundations of the predecessor building. The castle is a four-wing complex built around a rectangular courtyard with a moat. From 1824 to 1964, the building served as a rectory and came into private ownership in 1975. In 1994, Paul Neumann from Munich bought the castle at auction and had it renovated.
On the facade are the coats of arms of Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg and the Land Commanders Philipp von Gelnhausen and Franz von Lehrbach.
