In Stopfenheim, a district of Ellingen in the Central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, stands Stopfenheim Castle. The baroque structure was built on the foundations of an older moated castle and features a four-wing layout with a moat.

History+

A moated castle that was demolished in the early 18th century was the predecessor of the current Stopfenheim Castle. In its place, the current castle was built in 1716. It was commissioned by the Teutonic Order as a bailiwick, with master builder Franz Keller responsible for the baroque design.
