In the municipality of Straupitz in the Dahme-Spreewald district of Brandenburg, Straupitz Castle, a manor house in the Spreewald region, is located. The building, which today houses a school, was erected in the late 18th century on the site of an earlier Renaissance complex.

History+

Originally, a moated castle surrounded by a wide moat stood on the site of the current castle. From 1655, the lordship of Straupitz belonged to the von Houwald family. The present-day late Baroque castle was built between 1795 and 1798 under Carl Gottlob Willibald von Houwald. It is characterized by a simple, plastered facade with 13 axes and a mansard hip roof, structured by a flat central and corner risalits.
