Struppen Castle

Struppen Castle was originally a monastery and is located in the immediate vicinity of the church. In 1275, the manor Ztrupin was first mentioned. In 1310, Bertoldus des Strupin is mentioned. Hereafter, "Nickel von Görwicz zen Struppen" is named as the owner. In 1448, Hans von Karlewitz acquired the estate. Later owners mentioned include Jost von Rotwerndorff, Nickel and Hanß von Reichenbach, Hans Wolf von Schönberg, and Johann Christian Marbach. In 1822, a military boys' educational institution was established in Struppen Castle. From 1921 to 1929, the children's recreation home "Vogelsang" was located here, and from 1933, an SA - Leadership School. After 1945, the castle was used as a kindergarten. The castle is surrounded by a small park, a cemetery, and a school. For some time now, the association "Kunst- und Handwerkerforum Schloss Struppen" (Art and Crafts Forum Struppen Castle) has been working to revitalize the castle. A castle festival already took place on the grounds in 2008. The goal is to make the property accessible to the public.
