Stubenberg Castle (Gernrode)

The origins of the current Stubenberg Castle lie in a hunting and pleasure lodge commissioned by Prince Victor Friedrich von Anhalt-Bernburg. This building was expanded and served as a manor and guesthouse. From 1840, its accessibility improved with the extension of the road from Quedlinburg into the Harz. Around 1900, the existing structure no longer met requirements, leading to its demolition in 1914 and replacement with a new building completed in 1915. This new construction largely mirrored the predecessor's cubature, appearing as a plastered three-wing building on a high granite basement with neoclassical interior furnishings. Until 1945, the castle was a social focal point.
