In the district of Karlsruhe, Stutensee Castle is a hunting lodge that gave its name to the municipality. It was originally conceived as a pleasure house.

History+

The origins of Stutensee Castle date back to the mid-16th century, when Margrave Karl II had fish ponds laid out around 1550/60. In 1652, a margravial stud farm was established near these ponds, which gave the later castle its name. From 1669, the stud farm's stables were significantly expanded, reusing building materials from the destroyed Staffort Castle. The present castle was finally built in 1749 under Margrave Karl Friedrich of Baden as a hunting and pleasure palace.
