Sulzemoos Castle

Sulzemoos Castle is a square, three-story, three-winged complex, whose gabled roof is topped with a stepped gable. The park is enclosed by a high surrounding wall. It is located in the south of the municipality of Sulzemoos in the district of Dachau.
The origins of the current castle date back to 1546. At that time, Wiguleus Hundt von Sulzemoos und Lenting had the dilapidated castle, which he acquired from the estate left by his deceased wife, "rebuilt from the ground up". A woodcut from 1568 shows a single-story building with a gabled roof, which was decorated with oriel windows at each of the four corners. In 1643, the castle estate came into the possession of the Prince-Bishop of Freising, Veit Adam von Gepeckh, in whose family it remained until 1811. As a result of the War of the Spanish Succession, the building was destroyed on August 2, 1704, and was not rebuilt in its original old splendor. As a result, the castle, which still appears very massive today, lacks any fine architectural design. Around 1900, southeast of the castle, in the courtyard of the economy, the residence of the castle estate manager was newly built, and soon the lord of the castle, Wolfgang Lorenz von Schaezler, had an evangelical chapel installed in the castle.
The castle is privately inhabited and not accessible to the public.
