Sutthausen Castle

The Sutthausen Estate was first mentioned in a document in 1282. The owner at that time was the squire Johann von Sutthausen. The name originated from its southern location relative to Osnabrück. The castle moats are fed by the Düte, a nearby small river. Over the centuries, the ownership of the castle changed, and in 1935 it passed into the possession of the Thuiner Sisters of the Franciscan Order. They founded the 'Berufsfachschule am Marienheim' (Vocational School at Marienheim) with specializations in home economics, childcare, social care, and social assistant.

The property includes the castle chapel built in 1893 and the mill from 1589. The grounds are surrounded by an extensive park with ponds and a small zoo for native animals.
