Sutthausen Castle

In Osnabrück, Sutthausen Castle is an example of the development of rural noble residences. Its history dates back to the 13th century, and today it is known for its use as an educational institution.

The first documented mention of the Sutthausen estate occurred in 1282, when Johann von Sutthausen, a knight, was named as its owner. The name of the property derives from its southern location relative to Osnabrück. In 1935, the Thuiner Sisters of the Franciscan Order acquired the estate. They established the Marienheim Vocational School there, specializing in home economics, childcare, social care, and social assistance. The complex includes a castle chapel built in 1893 and a mill whose origins date back to 1589. The castle moats are fed by the river Düte.
