Tambach Castle

The origins of Tambach Castle date back to the early 12th century when a monastic farm was established. This farm developed into a monastic office in the 13th century, later also holding jurisdiction. During the Peasants' War and the Thirty Years' War, the complex suffered severe destruction. At the end of the 17th century, under Abbot Gallus Knauer, reconstruction began as a Baroque castle. The east wing was completed in 1698, and the architectural design is often attributed to Leonhard Dientzenhofer. The central section and west wing were completed between 1777 and 1786 under Abbot Johann Nepomuk Pitius.
