Tandalier Castle

The origins of Tandalier Castle date back to 1419, when it was first documented as "Hof Sulzberg." Around 1450, the farm came into the possession of the Tändler family, who gave it the name Tandalierhof. In 1537, the estate changed hands through exchange transactions to the Counts of Schernberg. This family, who served as administrators for the Archbishop of Salzburg, had the farm converted into a Renaissance castle around 1569 by Christoph Graf zu Schernberg and his wife Katharina von Paumgarten. During this conversion, the building was raised by one floor and equipped with four corner towers and an arcaded gallery. Due to the economic difficulties of the Schernbergs, the castle had to be sold in 1611 to the market judge Burkhart Schwaiger.
